Healthy Tips

We hope your New Year's Resolutions include this important check list

By Gynecology Specialists Staff

If you’ve made any New Year’s Resolutions or To Do lists for 2017, we hope they include the following:

An annual Gyn exam to check your breasts, cervix, uterus and ovaries. Cervical cancer is PREVENTABLE, however each year thousands of women in the U.S. died from it.

An annual screening for sexually transmitted diseases for women who may be at risk. The screening can reveal asymptomatic infections and prevent progression to a severe illness leading to spread of disease, hospitalization, infertility and even death.

An annual screening for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia for all sexually active women under the age of 24.

An annual mammogram for women over 40 to help screen for signs of breast cancer, which cause tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. each year. Early diagnosis and treatment results in excellent survival rates.

An annual physical exam and appropriate laboratory screenings with your primary care provider. Adults over 20 should have diabetes and cholesterol screening performed. The frequency of these tests depends on the associated risk factors.

A colonoscopy if age 50+ to screen for signs of colon cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment provides the best chances for survival.

A bone density test if you are post-menopausal, have had a fracture, have thyroid disease or rhuematoid arthritis, have a family history of osteoporosis.

We hope your 2017 is full of great happiness and health.
